Re: Import ova timeout

So wait, I am confused, are you trying to do the import from VCSA or ESXi? I thought you said earlier that you were doing it on the VCSA using the HTML5 Client. That is why I asked you to try using the Flash client.

Hi

Which version and build of VMRC you are using? You may try to update VMRC to latest to see if you can make it. And which version of ESXi you are using to run the VM? Thanks.

VMRC version 10.0.3 on Linux.

It says it is VM version 13, compatible with VMRC 6.5 and above. I can't find the actual version.

Re: esxi maintenance mode communication error

Connected directly to the web console of one of the hosts which would not go into maintenance mode from vCenter.  Then tried to go into maintenance mode.  Received the following:

Failed to enter maintenance mode: A general system error occurred: Connection reset by peer: The connection is terminated by the remote end with a reset packet. Usually, this is a sign of a network problem, timeout, or service overload.

Then tried esxcli system maintenanceMode set --enable true.  Received the same error.

Then localcli system maintenanceMode set --enable true.  Received the same error.

/etc/init.d/hostd restart  (since you are supposed to after using localcli, right?)

Then esxcli system maintenanceMode set --enable true worked.

So, it does not seem to be a vCenter issue.  Seems to be an ESXi issue.

The systems are Dell R730s.  Originally installed with DellEMC Customized Image ESXi 6.7 A01 (based on ESXi VMKernel Release Build 8169922) then upgraded to 6.7.0 Update 1 (Build 10764712).

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi,

It seems that the volume is corrupted (as the error states).

Did you check in the physical layer where the hypervisor installed errors related to that disk?

Also seeing issues with vSAN health check.  Hosts with connectivity issues.  I am assuming this may be related.  If the management agents are having issues communicating locally then vCenter would have issues communicating to them also.

Hi Ivan,

the driver is loaded for the DGE-528T card, and it should show up as vmnic0.

Since it is not listed by "esxcfg-nics -l" there was probably an error when initializing the card.

Can you please check the host's boot log for related error messages?

In an ESXi shell run something like

  gunzip -cd /var/log/boot.gz | less

to look at the file. Search with "/vmnic0".

Andreas

So it indicates that the hostd often goes to not responding state and it doesnt come up automatically unless you restart the agent. Since it is a vSAN enabled host, better to raise a case with VMware and ask them to generate a hostd dump and investigate why the agent is hanging , they will help you to find the actual cause. It may be a bug as well.

Error: Failed to mount boot tardisks

After upgrading to the version 6.7.0 of the ESXi we get this error.

Can anyone help with some information on how to solve it? Or at least what may be causing it.

The other versions worked fine, this happened during the process of upgrading from the version 5.5 to the last one available.

How did you upgrade your host ? Directly from 5.5 to 6.7 ?

Re: Error: Failed to mount boot tardisks

No, we had to upgrade first to 6.0.

We have been doing the upgrade using two servers and doing the upgrade version to version.

On one of the machines we ran into this error and haven't been able to solve it.

That's what we will try. Just wanted to know if there was a known solution to this.

Thanks for the info, good to know - we've built a new Win10 gold VM in View, and are going to test with it. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Having trouble opening a support case.  Ordered support for VMware through Dell.  Now Dell says we do not have support for VMware.

Thanks for the idea.

Unfortunality the only other XHCI card is one from Logitech with the same issue.

Could you please give me a tip, how to use the compatibility guide, or rather where to find such USB-Controller in it?

I used a new disk with esxi operating system and I can register all VMs on all old disks . It seems that the physical layer of all disks is OK.
