Removing and recreating the datastore did the trick.  I got back 131.2G.  Thanks Andre!  One question, what could cause the ESXi to misread the available hard drive space initially? -Jim

I don't know, but I guess there were some "dirty" bits on the disk which were not initialized properly!? But as mentioned, that's just a guess. André
