I have esxi 4.1 running on a Dell PE R715.
I recently had a HD fail, and when I replaced the HD with a new one it rebuild automatically (and pretty quick too about 6 hours).
Then I just had a HD fail 2 days ago, but I couldn't get an exact replacement HD as they don't make that kind anymore. The drives in there now are all 750 GB drives, but Dell doesn't make those anymore, they only make 1 TB drives, so I had to get a 1 TB drive for the replacement. So I put the new drive into the DAS unit ( I think it is an MD12xx) and all the lights were blinking happily, however vsphere is still saying that the Raid is partially degraded, like the new drive is not rebuilding.
How can I get it to rebuild the drive, how can I check that?
I have DRAC access to the server, but I cannot see any menus for RAID in the DRAC screen.
I don't have Open Manage because it is running VMware and I don't have that installed. (I am not even sure if I know how to install OMSA on a VMware box?)
