Are you running lot of i/o during deletion of snapshot, check vmwae.log What it is showing to you... If lot of i/o runs, committing to base disk takes lot of time. That is one of the reason it will...

I do not think this applies since the ESXi host does not function as an NTP server. Always make sure your environment is fully patched because VMware is very good at fixing any discovered vulnerabilities.
