That's one of the articles I looked at but it mentions to delete all snapshots and I don't have any to delete. That's why I was confused.

How did you confirm there are no snapshots? Did you verify that there are no <vmnam>-00000x.vmdk files in the VM's folder on the datastore? Even if there are no snapshots, you may try deleting...
