During a ESXi upgrade the VMFS is not upgraded, so you can leave your VMFS at version 3 until all your hosts is upgraded to version 5.5 or later.

Hello, you can do this.I personally would recommend to reserve 4 GB for the ESXi. So you can upgrade your VM up to 8 GB without problems.Regards,Patrick
