Issues following host failure

Hi,

This morning we had an issue with our ESXI 4.0 host. It appears that we have a failed drive in the array and once this was fixed we faced an issue with error - PANIC - Error while reading file 5 - state.tgz.

I repaired the host which wiped the config of the host and retained all data in the datastore, My next steps included reconfiguring the servers network settings and creating a new VM with the VMDK of our server that was retained. I successfully built the VM however windows woldnt boot, i was faced with tghe below error in windows boot manager:

File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt

I have booted from the server 2003 installation disk to enter Windows Recovery Console and run the following

F:\Windows\System32\bcdedit /store F:\Boot\BCD /set {bootmgr} device boot

The operation completed successfully.

F:\Windows\System32\bcdedit /store F:\Boot\BCD /set {default} device boot

The operation completed successfully.

F:\Windows\System32\bcdedit /store F:\Boot\BCD /set {default} osdevice boot

The operation completed successfully.

However.... here's the problem... when selecting the installation i want to log onto in the recovery console, i am never prompted for a password and the console just hangs, i did check CPU utilisation and there is activity so something is happening.

Anyone came across this issue before?

Thanks in advance for your help.
