VMtools upgrade without downtime of VM's

Hi,

I'm going to upgrade the esxi version from 4.1 to 5.1.In this setup multiple VM's are running on this esxi servers and all are business critical.So I can't reboot those VM's after upgrade the virtual machine hardware.Is there any possibilities to upgrade the virtual machine hardware version without reboot the VM's.
